Nothing but respect for them, honestly. I've known her parents Jason and Audra for over 20 years so it was a real pleasure to photograph their eldest daughter. I will admit I'm a bit late on getting this shoot up but it was a good time. I have not been to this spot since I want to say, 2018. Not much has changed but I knew the fall colors would really pop.

I was asked if she could bring her guitar as this a major focus in her life and of course. I want to capture what is important to the client. I was pleasantly surprised when her dad, Jason told me she's been working on Texas is the Reason songs! One of my favorite bands from the late 90s and much to my delight she played those songs the most of the time. It was a lot of fun. Catching up with the family and sharing laughs and memories. Makes my job all the more worth it.

Thank you, Mia as well as Jason and Audra. I appreciate you all.

Looking back on this site my child known then as "Heaven" had her senior session with me back in 2017. Fast forward to present day, Heaven found herself in the midst of a transition to a non-binary life and has been identifying as a male and male gender pronouns as Kevin(he/him). It has been nothing but support from both sets of parents and family alike. Kevin found happiness in his new life but also in Alexis. Alexis moved here to Indiana from Colorado to start a new journey with Kevin. They moved into their first apartment in this time and navigated their way into "adult life" and making their own way the best they know how.

I was asked if I would photograph their formals and I was happy to do so. I wanted to give them some lasting memories for their day but moreover knowing it can be a whirlwind of a day. The weather was great, the atmosphere was loving from all involved. I'm very happy for them, finding that person who completes you and really makes you happy. Their smiles show that and its easy for them to do and it's a beautiful thing. Their love for one another is special. Cherish that. At the end of the day, Love is love! Thank you Kevin and Alexis! I wish you all the best!

As a person who enjoys traditional hotrods...that's a lie. I'm neck deep into the whole thing! I've had a few features in magazines like Ol' Skool Rodz and Kustom Car Deluxe with lofty goals of shooting for Hop Up Magazine but as we know most print media is dying out and getting features are harder than it used to be. My good friend Erik completed his first build for a friend and asked if I'd like to shoot it? Sure would! He honestly did an amazing job on this build for being his first but it was with passion and purpose. He may not believe it but I'm proud of him and I thank him for thinking of me to shoot this bike but for being a solid dude! Thank you Erik!

Opening my books up again was something I felt good about but nervous at the same time. Being this was a senior shoot and not one for following trends, I wanted to be sure I had some assurance that I in fact knew what I was doing. Portraits are just that and although I'm still actively shooting digital and film it was going to be good. The caveat was it was a senior session and there was a horse involved. We'll let's get to it!

I pull up to a location in Kendallville, I see a horse and my client in the front yard. I'd never shot with an animal of this stature but honestly everything went smooth. Elizabeth or Liz was super easy to work with. Wrangler, the horse was well behaved. The connection between these two was special. It was a real bond and I hope that the images captured that. This is planned to be the first session of two for her senior sessions. I'm excited for the second as I am clicking through these images. Thank you Liz! It was rad to get to know you and Wrangler.

This is my first book. A title borrowed from the lyrics of an Ether Coven song. I received word that the trailer park I grew up in from 1989-1998 was being demolished and the residents were being forced to move for the development of the property. The area around it in the last 20 years has grown tremendously so this would be a product of commercialization if you will. As I've mentioned in my previous post that my past is something I've kept dark. I don't talk about growing up in a trailer park. We cannot chose what family we're born into but we make the most of it.

My brother and I took one last bike ride through these streets I have not seen in many years. Once we met up he asked if I wanted to see our old trailer in which replied to him "very much so" going into this I had no idea I was going to do a book, it was more just to document. We roll up to an abandoned trailer and the memories flooded in. I moved into this place in 1984 when my parents bough it new. I shot around it and we were confronted by a neighboring maintenance man. He informed us that it was too far gone and would be "hauled off to the dump" in the next few weeks. This pretty much cemented the importance of my work. This trailer is the cover and the first 4 pages. We moved on to Oak Creek / DuPont Estates. I shot so many frames. Every images has a memory or a story behind it with the buildup of buildings and industry growing around it. It was important work. Not as cathartic as I thought it would be but surprisingly emotional

Once it was completed and I took a while to edit the images and I knew it was time to do a book. Be vulnerable. The DIY Punk kid in me did a limited run of 50. To date, I've sold more than half. I'm happy to put this work out there. It's a piece of me regardless if others feel that or not. If you'd like a copy, provided I still have them, please email me: JJacobsphotog@gmail.com and for $12.00 I'd be stoked to send you one. Thank you for reading.

What's New? Greetings. So, where have I been? my last post to this blog was late 2019. I basically took a break from client work. I have been working full time for an ad agency and honestly, doing client work was a bit too much. I enjoy my free time but then again my free time was being consumed by building a hot rod, building a new house with my wife Jenna and enjoying just whatever came our way. Then pandemic hit. For most of us, it meant a new way of life. Working from home, being safe. Wearing a mask, adjusting to a new way of doing things. For some of us, losing family members, losing sanity, losing some of the simple things such as face to face interactions down to shaking hands. It really put things into perspective but also put some things on the back burner. Although I had more time at home I neglected personal growth, Stunted if you will but we got through.

2021 brought it own set of challenges. I never stopped shooting personal work. In fact, I love it. It was that little outlet I felt I needed. I rekindled with film photography. Something I haven't touched since the early 2000's. It's been a weird experience. I can't say that I love it but it makes me slow down a bit. I told myself all of my 2021 personal work would be film. I picked up a new hotrod project while the Model A coupe was being built so that also took up some time. We were safe, we were healthy. Always moving in some direction

June of 2021, my position at the agency was being relocated. I was faced with a decision and I decided to figure out my life and what is the best fit for me. I've taken on some small time social media management for my brothers auto detail business. I decided to shoot more. To make myself more available and with that I completed my first book. A long time project I put off for what felt like years. I was never one to talk about my past in a positive way but I felt it was time for me to open that up through my work. To be vulnerable, to show that side I've kept dark. See the next post for more info

What will 2022 bring? I'm not too sure but I plan...I use that loosely, but I am taking on client work. I'm working on myself, working on more projects, scouting more locations to shoot. Life doesn't have to be as difficult as we make it at times. I wish you the best, I appreciate you reading and there is a slew of posts coming. Thank you

Jeremy

Seems like a valid questions. This blog is all but dead anymore. I haven't been active as a working photographer. I think Ive been more focused on personal work as I have said in previous entries. Ive been busy in 2019 with a house build, a hot rod build, work...the list goes on and on. I was approached by a co-worker who asked me to do a small session of her boys because they dont have many images together. I obliged and the location was set. Christmas is right around the corner so what better placed than the St. Joe Christmas Tree Farm. Things went off without a hitch and we knocked it out in the fair weather. I appreciate Emily and her family for the opportunity. Heres to you and yours this holiday season! Enjoy

It was a rainy and cold November day so we hit the botanical conservatory to keep warm. Im honestly stoked how this family always makes time for to caputre them in such a way and I'll say it till I'm blue in the face but repeat clients are rad! Enjoy.

When Justin came to me and asked if Id be down to photograph their wedding I didn't hesitate. It was a small family only ceremony, simple and to the point. Justin and Cassie always compliment my work and come to me for most all of their photo needs and Ive said it before but repeat clients are what makes the world turn. The location was the beautiful grounds at the Gene Statton Porter Historic site. Its always a joy to photograph two rad, and giving people. Jenna tagged along for the marco shots which she rules way more than I do(thank you) Justin and Cassie - Thank you so much to the both of them.

Its really how I spend my time as of late and this is why I don't update this site as often as I should. The GE Plant has been a Fort Wayne staple for many many years. Its hard to to find someone who didn't have past relatives that worked among these walls. The last production run was over 10 years ago. Its a location Ive been wanting to shoot for the longest time and a warm June morning I had my chance to do so. There is a large effort to turn this humongous campus into apartments and revitalize the area and I, for one am all for it. Funding is slow but I think its the future of what Fort Wayne could be. Enjoy

What started as a 1930 Ford Model A Sport Coupe converted to a roadster by Fort Wayne local Jim Cook. I was awestruck. This car sits atop a '32 for frame with a Chevy 327 power plant. Jim is a really nice guy and will have conversations for what feels like hours. I set this shoot up for the editors of Car Kulture Deluxe magazine. The feature wasnt picked up but I felt it was only right to post them after sitting on them for so long. Thank you to Jim for being a super nice guy and taking the time to let me try my hand at car photography.

Perhaps, some of you have already. Heaven is my daughter. Steady approaching adult life and man, am I proud and a little nervous. Heaven has always been one of my favorite people but shes a little like me so how could I not, right? In all serious though, she makes her way through life as a good, warm-hearted person. Things might not always go the way we plan but I try to instill in her that life takes time and if you fall or stumble that you can pick yourself back up and try again and again.

I'll keep this brief but for you Heaven: We get through this life on good days and some bad days but know that I am here to walk with you in whatever aspect of life you may face. What challenges and road blocks that may stand in your way we will get through together. We laugh, we cry and sometimes we sing in the car but most importantly you are an amazing human being! Im very proud of you and I love you very much!

I mean it was the 80s! I grew up in a small farm town and did I mention it was the 80s? I grew up with a love for cars and wanting to go fast but it was, like most things I picked up on my own, through trial and error and by doing. Coming up through the world of autocross and road course racing in my 20s to traditional hot rods and that culture in the mid 2000s. I purchased a 1930 Ford Model A coupe in December of 2015 from a friend with a history here in Fort Wayne. A previously modified coupe that used to pound the streets in the late 50s. It was a major purchase but I knew it was something I wanted to get into. I have been hoarding parts slowly and doing things as I can but its a true passion and one of the few things that keeps me up at night as I mentally build the coupe over and over in my head.

When time came to pick a person to build the motor I knew the choice for was Tony and Ross Race Engines. After a few phone calls and a plan to take my Chevy 327 with a Man-a-Fre intake and four 2brl carbs in September I hit the road east bound at 5am. The trip was easy and I was looking forward to meeting Tony and seeing his Hilton Hot rods built coupe. I don't take that lightly. His car has been my number 1 inspiration from the beginning so being up close and personal to his car, his shop and the beautiful work he does was next level. Tony is a very hospitable guy(once you get to know him) he is no nonsense, he can be brash but he put passion into what he does and it shows. We went over my build plan for the motor and talked about his car and that car. It really was a great trip and a good guy to know. Before I left I snapped a few images of his coupe with my Fuji X100 and I hit the road. I'm looking forward to getting back to his shop in the near future!

I didnt realize that it has been almost a year. Man, am I kicking myself. Its hard to expand upon a business if you're not producing content for the world to see. I have been focusing on more personal work that gets posted to Instagram and building a 1930 Ford Model A hotrod which is really just an excuse so Im going to make up for it all here and now! Welcome back!

I was given a lead by a friend of mine to go a family shoot for Debbie Doust and her family. Once I was informed it would be around 29 people, I was up for the challenge. One thing I tend to forget in the moment of shooting a large group is to make sure you can see every person in some way and a challenge it was. With the looming clouds and the threat of rain I think we go through it pretty well. The site of the shoot was at the Lebamoff home for their fathers birthday and a lovely home and lovely people. Very hospitable and kind. As the family filled in we got to work. Its shoots like this I enjoy. I can stay behind the camera and capture moments between family groupings. It was just a lot of fun and I want to thank everyone involved. Enjoy

Part IIThis will be the final installment of the Thermal California at the Salton Sea series. I spent more time walking around this area than the previous year. I was able to find more that I felt I missed. On the plus side, the sea didn't have the pungent odor as it did before and the erosion didn't seem to have changed much. The fish and bird carcasses seemed to be on the decline as well. That's not saying much over all. The chair on the beach, one of my favorite images from last year has sunk up to its arm in a years time. Ive said before that the Salton Sea is a love for me. It will always fill me with wonder of what was there and what it will become and I'm grateful to have these opportunities to shoot this location annually. I owe a lot to those who support me, and Ian Jenkins for continuous support and driving. I'm not sure what 2017 holds as far as returning but I will say, the future is bright. We evolve and the world keeps turning although we don't feel it. Thank you for reading. Enjoy

Part ITo continue from the last blog...After I shot Desert Shores we did a 3 mile journey to Thermal, California. This location, like the previous was a place that I have visited before but I wanted to explore more. This town is more of a wasteland if you will. A lot of the streets are dirt roads and this is the second time I have seen these ATV bandits, with black flags hanging off the back end and loud exhausts throwing sand and dust in their wake. I have perhaps made that sound more cool than it really was. I have also noticed that the rise of graffiti art on some of these abandoned buildings, which most of the time for me is a bummer but I see it from all sides.

I did shoot some of the same subjects in 2015 and some new. The Park Estates recreational suites was new to me but be advised that pigeons will go into a full dive bomb in your general direction if they feel threatened. I glad I had that wool flannel on! haha. Only jokes. Stayed tuned for part II of this series in the future. I appreciate you looking. Enjoy

The sting of warmer temperatures and a waft of smog and exhaust. I'm met with flashing lights and a familiar smile of family. Los Angeles has always had something to offer me in a major way and this annual trip makes all the nervous anxiety of sitting in a plane worth it. My primary motivation on these trips is to reconnect with family, to reconnect with the west coast hot rod scene and squeeze as much out of life as I can foregoing sleep to make this annual trip more exciting than the last but all in all that is a difficult task but that motivation I will never waver from.

We set off on an otherwise cloudy Monday morning for Desert Shores, California. The Salton Sea was a place I have visited just a year prior in all of its splendor but I knew there were places I had missed that make the long days at work that have my head spinning at the possibility that I do not like to leave a stone upturned to discover whats left and shoot everything I can. A few hours later we ended up in clear skies, among the odd palm tree forests of the desert. Walking the over cooked black top streets and this is what I found. Word of advice...even in December, do not wear a wool flannel. This will be the first set of my 2016 trip to the Salton Sea. Thank you and enjoy.

I'm grateful to this couple for making me their photographer of choice. Travis and Jessica have booked me for their engagement session that we did on the south end of Fort Wayne with some South Calhoun architecture. They also booked me for their wedding in 2014 to be seen here:
Jessica + Travis Ive watched their family grow with the addition of their son, Stellan they have made quick work to create a modern family, and new home to embody love and I could be more pleased with how these images.

This was the first of the "mini sessions" I have offered, like the previous session fall colors were a must and at this time Franke Park is a personal favorite of mine. Seeing Stellan smile and laugh with Jessica and Travis makes doing this all the more worthwhile, and not to leave out Colin for the help. I am forever grateful for their continuous support and good times. ...on a side note, Jessica has a foul mouth! Just jokes. Thank you for reading and enjoy your week.

If not, check this shoot out: L + N Maternity // Fort Wayne, IN We decided to revisit the same location for this shoot and I got to meet Alex. The sprinkling of rain started about five minutes before our shoot but we were able to find tree cover that worked. This shoot was right before Alex's 1st birthday and Halloween so photographing him in his Amon Amarth inspired viking costume was crucial. He may have been a little unsure of the leaves on the ground but a visit from his Uncle Todd I was able to capture some incredible smiles and good times all around.

As always I want to thank Nate and Lindsay for being repeat clients and I wish them well in the future. Im thinking this wont be the last we see of Alex. Thank you for reading and stay tuned.

I would like it more if it said "Dominic Toretto" but that could be misleading or at least lets me know he will never live his life a quarter mile at a time with a name like Justin Jordan but I can relate to the initials. He booked me from suggestions on an Indiana local Subaru forum and I'm grateful to have met him. Additionally, during our client meeting I met his better half..his "Letty Ortiz" if you will. I'm not sure if she has ever had a 2G buy in or raced an RX7 in the desert while saying "seeeeee ya!" while hitting the NOS button in her S14 but either way she is a great addition to their small garage, and rumor has it that if you cant find the right tool in their garage, you dont belong near a car.

They wanted a simple wedding session with formals not over posed and we kept it that way. I'm not sure if Plymouth is the mosquito capital of world but I will tell you first hand it's a gnarly reality and I'm thanking my lucky stars for calamine lotion and truly great clients. I appreciate both Tammy and Justin Jordan very much. They are easy to make laugh and have a great chemistry and big hearts. They made sure I was well taken care of and accommodated. I'm posting this session in Black & White(a though there are more color images) but these stood out to me, maybe its a phase but I'll go with it. Thank you for reading. Enjoy your weekend.

It is amazing to me(all those who love you) how fast you have grown into a young woman. Independent of your own life, your destiny and your ever so important future. Never ever give up your drive for life, never take anything for granted and always strive for your best - forever pushing until you capture that last star in your sky. I love you very much and I thank you for this session.

This session was done at the Burkholder Homestead in South Whitley Indiana. I was long over due for a session with my very own but I knew it had to be just right. Among the bugs and the sun, missed golden hour by about 45 minutes but nothing that an awesome orange chair and a Alien Bee couldn't cure. I'm extremely pleased and that smile cant be beat, but maybe Im biased. I will have a few more sessions to blog coming up. I appreciate you all. Enjoy your weekend.

I haven't posted anything on this site since last year which seems par for the course anymore. I haven't promoted myself much due to full time shooting real estate and basically haven't had the time. Now that has slowed down Ive discovered the joy in a Fuji X100. Such a great little camera. Its made me slow down a bit and realize whats around me to create, to shoot and to make photographs. Its been an eye opening experience. I will post up a series of those shots in a few months. I'm sure this isn't the first time Ive said this, nor will it be the last but I plan on updating this site a little more as sessions come in.

Justin contacted me to do a session for a poster for his local art show at a spot called Fancy & Staple. I had yet to see this old wood shop converted to his studio so hey why not? but to add to that I'm continually humbled by the fact that he has supported me and my work for upwards of 4 years since him and I became friends. There are a lot of local photographers but he doesn't hesitate to contact me and for that I'm grateful. His work stands above most Ive seen doing things the write way. All by hand. No stencils, No vinyl, Done right and the way it should be. Here's to Justin. Thank you.

This engineering disaster was at one point a hot spot of boating, fishing and resort life for many in the 1950s. I have had this location on my list for a long time. I started photographing abandoned architecture and location and the like since before I started doing portraiture. Its what I consider "personal work" The history, the story and whats left after have always drawn me in and the Salton Sea is no different. For so long it seemed unattainable that I would reach this destination...and here we are. Just for reference feel free to browse Youtube for documentaries. Well worth the watch.

Arriving on the North West end of the Sea(North Shore) you could see the shimmer of a large body of water tucked away in the mountains surrounded by farm land and desert. Going a little further South you could begin to see the barren remains. Straight away my mind kept going back to the scenes in my years of research of what this place was, at one point bigger than Palm Springs and the Rat Pack and other big names frequented. I was amazed at the amount of Tilapia carcasses lining the shore, as well as the amount of birds that in habit these waters. The beach was made of salt deposit and fish bones. Quite a sight...I would say "breath taking" but that was the smell. We pushed on to Bombay Beach which was a somewhat inhabited community. Onward to the south end of the lake and up the west end to Salton City. We covered the outer perimeter of the lake. The town was set to thrive at one point and now left with $7,000 lots and empty streets. I generally try not to "toot my own horn" but the images produced on this trip are some of my favorite of my career.

Thank you for looking and enjoy

Last year I focused my California trip around late 80 / early 90s skateboarding and the art forms that I drew so much inspiration from as a child and this year, not unlike most other trips was about hot rodding and the culture and what better place to explore than the historic and infamous Route 66. The journey from Los Angeles to my first destination of Baghdad, California was about a two hour car ride but good snacks and conversation makes a trip a bit less arduous. Through Ludlow and eventually Amboy, California

One thing that always seems to play against me is time. The sun was slowly getting closer to the mountains and I knew that being without a tripod I may have my work cut out for me. Once upon the the iconic road that gave way to many road side attractions, motels, motor inns and cafes in the 50s, the era I probly embrace the most I forgot about the day light that was fading and thought about the cars, trucks and the people on their many road trips to the west on this throughway. The I-40 Highway was built and diverted most traffic away from Route 66 in the mid 60s and most of these places continued to slowly die off. The road is extremely rough and really doesn't have the feel that generations before me got to enjoy. This will be the first small installment of images from my exploration of California. Much gratitude goes out to my family, Mr. Ian Jenkins for his support and wheel time.

Ive known Lindsay since the late 90s. I met her and her brother Todd at a meeting spot to do a protest against the circus or possibly the fur industry. I dont quite remember but they were always there for the cause and never went unnoticed. A little while later I was at a local hardcore fest which happened to be going on in the town Lindsay was inhabiting for college. I was a band called Mara a'kate that changed a lot for me in good ways and she happened to surprise me with a 1" pin of theirs after I exclaimed how blown away I was by seeing their 6 minute set. I still have the pin to this day and has been on the same bag for the last 15 years. I know, Im really showing my age here.

I met Nate for the first time before the session but Ive heard nothing but good things about him from Todd and I'll have to say he is real stand up guy with a pretty demanding job saving lives and all. The day we were supposed to meet up didnt work out so we scheduled a bit later to meet up at a favorite spot of mine. I knew the fall leaves would start to show so I was excited. On this day the weather was less than pleasant. The wind had kicked up in the mid 20mph range and the clouds started to spit. Im grateful that Lindsay and Nate stuck it out and powered through our session. I had a good time. I hope they did do and some how stayed more dry and warm than I was. From what Ive heard the baby boy is basically anytime now and I wish them all the best being new parents and all of their endeavors. Thank you and Enjoy.
